Niue, the world’s largest uplifted coral atoll and the world’s smallest independent nation, is an uncrowded, untouristy slice of Polynesia as it used to be. Niue offers a relaxed, nature-based holiday. It is an unexpected land with genuinely friendly people. A rugged shoreline circles a heavily forested central region and the island is surrounded by an ocean that is quite spectacular with crystal clear waters and an abundance of marine life. Whether you’re diving, snorkelling, fishing or simply gazing at the ocean while enjoying a cool drink, the water clarity will amaze you. With a population of less than 1,500 people, you will know half of the island before you leave. Why not join us to this little-visited island?
Depart from Auckland on a morning Air New Zealand flight. Cross the international dateline.
On arrival we have a brief orientation tour before arriving at our hotel for the next seven nights. Dinner at the hotel tonight.

A leisurely mid-morning visit to a local church to hear the singing. For those who wish why not continue on to Avatele beach for a swim, and/or experience a casual meal at the unique ‘Washaway Café’ where many locals spend their afternoon.
Washaway café only opens on Sundays and is possibly the last self-service honesty bar in the world. In its laid-back atmosphere, on a great beach where you can enjoy a cold drink, a burger, panini, fish meal or a pizza. Cash or eftpos only.
This morning there is an optional whale swimming experience (an alternative option will be available for those not participating). Afternoon free for optional activities, before we enjoy the King’s Banquet Meal at Kai Ika Restaurant.
Optional Whale Swimming / Watching Tour approx. $350 per person (Limited numbers / dependent on a minimum number of participants.)
Niue, the beautiful Pacific Island, is known for its stunning crystal-clear waters, making it an incredible spot for whale watching. From late June to October, humpback whales migrate through these waters, offering a breath-taking spectacle. Massive humpback whales gracefully glide through the deep blue sea, occasionally breaching or slapping their tails against the water’s surface. It’s a mesmerizing sight and swimming with the whales leaves a lasting impression on anyone lucky enough to witness it first-hand. A good level of fitness and the ability to swim comfortably in the ocean is required. Swimming is not mandatory - you can stay on the boat and view the whales.
An early start today for those who wish to enjoy an optional fishing charter experience. Later this morning an interesting visit to Vaipapahi to see how Vanilla is grown. Late this afternoon we join the local bowls club for an evening of relaxed fun.
Optional Fishing Charter Experience approx. $200 per person (Limited numbers / dependent on a minimum number of participants.)
The deep, clear waters surrounding Niue offer fantastic opportunities for fishing enthusiasts. Fishing can bring exciting encounters with marlin, tuna, mahi-mahi, and other game fish. A 4-5 hour experience will leave you with fishing stories for a life time.
For those who wish, there will be an early morning visit to the weekly Market Day (best between 6-8am), returning to the hotel for breakfast before departing on a ‘guided plantation tour’ experiencing local crops, a taste of exotic fruits and the chance to hold a coconut crab. After lunch we enjoy a swim at the famous Limu Pools and a walk through the chasm. We return to our hotel for a leisurely evening.
This morning an optional snorkelling trip awaits. (An alternative option will be available for those not participating). We then enjoy lunch together before a relaxing afternoon including a beer tasting at Inu Hake the local brewery. Tonight, we celebrate our final night together with a traditional Niuean Umu Buffet. A night to remember.
Optional Snorkelling Trip approx. $160 per person ( 3 hours – Limited numbers / dependent on a minimum number of participants.)
Niue’s crystal-clear waters are home to various marine life, including spinner dolphins and bottlenose dolphins. There is a resident Spinner Dolphin population in Niue all year round, so if we encounter them, we quite often offer swim with them alongside the boat as part of our snorkel tour (dolphins are not guaranteed but a bonus!). On average across the 3 hour tour you would expect to spend approx. half that time in the water, the additional time is used for sightseeing. You must be fit and a capable snorkeller to enjoy this tour.
A leisurely morning, time to enjoy a final swim or just relax. Maybe even a last-minute whale sighting from the hotel, then transfer to the airport for a mid-afternoon flight back to Auckland. Cross the date line.

To ensure the tour is enjoyable for you and others in the group, a good standard of fitness and mobility is required. It is expected you will arrive on tour fit, healthy and ready to travel.
